Ignition: the Student Business Club

Ignition 2017 is an intensive 8 week business start-up Hot House for students, graduates and staff to look at their business ideas and learn the steps to turn them in to reality.

This action packed 8 week programme only needs you for 2 hours each week, (dates/times to be confirmed) to work on your business ideas, whilst enjoying pizza. We know people work better on a full stomach!

The 8 weeks are based on the highly acclaimed Business Boot Camp and Enterprise Modules developed and delivered by Gareth Sear Business Start Up Manager from the University’s  Business School.

You will be taken on a journey where you will learn the 9 building blocks of business, how to verbalise your business to different people and ultimately building up to creating a crowdfunding campaign, that you present back to the group and an expert panel for even more tips and advice – it is then up to you to choose to make it live!

You will be fully supported by Gareth and the wider enterprise team with one to one coaching, knowledge development and personalised support to make your business happen.

We are also offering a free virtual office at the Dome Enterprise Centre to anyone who needs a professional business and mailing address.

The initiative works with all students across all departments and courses. It is perfect for those seeking a freelance career, want to start their own clinics or companies or build their own business.

Past student business ideas include: theatre companies, sports coach freelancers, eBay traders, clothing brands, therapists, art agents and travel companies.

Whatever your interest or idea, we'd love to hear from you and welcome you to Ignition: The Business Hot House for University of Chichester Students and Graduates.

Email or call 01243 812041 for more information.

Why take part?

You can be thinking of a career as a freelancer, self-employed artist, starting a limited company or simply making some extra cash whilst you are studying. Any business idea is welcomed.

Students want to start their own business for many reasons:

  • To earn some extra cash
  • To gain valuable work experience and show case their skill, knowledge & talent
  • To develop a business for when they graduate

Oh and there will be doughnuts. Lots of doughnuts – with tea and coffee as well!

What will I learn?

Ignition is for any student or graduate at the university.  You can be exploring an idea or actually starting up or growing a business.

You will learn about:

  • The 9 Building Blocks of Business
  • How to verbalise your business
  • How to pitch your business to customers and investors
  • Understanding your customers
  • How to market to your customers

Additionally, in personal coaching sessions or additional workshops, we can talk about the tax and legal issues of being your own boss.
