Grimm Girls Exhibition

This exhibition will feature the illustrations of six familiar and much-loved fairy tales – 'Little Red Riding Hood', 'Cinderella', 'Snow White', 'Sleeping Beauty', 'Rapunzel' and 'Beauty and the Beast' – by Grimm, Perrault and other authors. As well as framed pictures, there will also be first edition books and other artefacts of various illustrators, among them Arthur Rackham, Charles Robinson, Mervyn Peake and Mabel Lucie Attwell. ‘Grimm Girls: Picturing the “Princess”’ is curated by Dr Anne Anderson, a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Chichester, in association with the University’s Department of English and Creative Writing and the Sussex Centre for Folklore, Fairy Tales and Fantasy.

Anne Anderson, the exhibition’s curator, graduated in Art History and Archaeology from Leicester University in 1978 and worked as an archaeologist for 8 years, being elected to the Society of Antiquaries in 1997. From 1993-2007 she was a senior lecturer at Southampton Solent University, where she specialized in the Aesthetic Movement, Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau and Modernism. In 2009 and 2010 the exhibition The Truth About Faeries was shown at Southampton City Art Gallery and Tullie House Museum, Carlisle.  Anne’s career as an international speaker has taken her all over the world, including Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA and she has also lectured on Swan Hellenic’s Minerva2 and Saga’s Spirit of Adventure. Her television credits include BBC’s Flog It!
