James Martin

About

James is a principal lecturer and academic advisor. He is the Head of Primary Partnership within the Institute of Education and works in the School Partnership Office. He and his team have the responsibility of placing primary PGCE and BA (QTS) students in the institute’s partnership schools.

Experience: Before working at the University James spent 25 years teaching in three schools. He was the Deputy Headteacher of two of these schools. His final Deputy Headship was at a large local primary school. He has experience of teaching from Early Years to the end of KS2.

Beyond school James was responsible for leading assessment and moderation for the local area’s schools. He has also led senior and middle leadership training programmes.

He holds a BA (Hons) in Geography and English and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education.

Interests: James is passionate about teacher training and helping those ‘future teachers’ to reach their full potential. He has a special interest in how children in different groups: PPG, boys, girls, SEN and EAL adapt to different teaching styles and dedicated programmes.

He would like to research how autistic children react to teachers and new environments and how they can be assisted in their learning both academically and socially.
